Miss Whyte tells me you would like a line about our Parliamentary Delegation to China.
176%
We were intending to write to you about this nearer the date of the Delegation's departure but I understand that it would be convenient for you to have a note about them now.
The facts are given in the House of Commons and House of Lords debates of the 5th August, 1947 and I do not think there is anything I can add
to what is said there. I understand that Liss Whyte has already copies of the relevant extracts. According to present plans the Delegation will leave the United Kingdom by air on September 29th and they expect to arrive at Hong Kong on 5th October. It is not certain whether they will proceed to Shanghai by B.0.A.0. plane or direct by a Chinese plane to Manking but in any event they are due in Nanking on October 6th. The provisional itinerary provides for the conclusion of their tour at Canton on November 6th, and it is proposed that they will leave Hong Kong by air for Singapore on Sunday, November 9th and Singapore for the United Kingdom on Wednesday, November 12th. They will not be touching on Singapore on the outward journey.
We should be grateful if you would inform the authorities concerned at Hong Kong and Singapore
K.D. Mayle, Esq.,
Colonial Office.
